oil on 12 oz canvas
The Warrumbungle National Park is full of remnants-signs of Indigenous people living in the area. There are carvings, paintings, stone axes/spears/ bones/bags/ ring of stones/carved trees… There was no mention of Indigenous peoples in history classes in the time of my schooling. It is very recent that we have discovered that there was genocide and disregard for the native population. This work is concerning the spiritual attachment to the land by my friend Stephen Ruttley and a feeling of his ancestors being part of the land which was taken ownership of by the new settlers.
This work is in a private Collection Canberra NFS
